Harvest Series Summer 2021 Release: Farmhouse Tart Blueberry Liqueur

Bottle in Field with berries.jpg

To celebrate the early summer harvest we handpicked ripe blueberries from right behind the distillery, plucked fresh lemons from the tree in the Farmhouse yard (inspiration for the name), hand selected the most fragrant thyme, and blended in our own blueberry honey to create this unique and delicious dram.

Blueberry, lemon and thyme take center stage for the inaugural harvest spirit. Made using freshly harvested blueberries from the distillery’s backyard, lemons plucked from our island Farmhouse, blueberry honey from our resident bees and fragrant thyme for one-of-a-kind hyper-local spirit. More than just sweet, this slightly tart liqueur is layered with complexity and is perfect in a spritz, margarita, in lemonade, or simply mixed with sparkling water over ice. This is a fresh seasonal spirit best enjoyed like the harvest it captures, during the hot summer months that inspired its creation. Cheers!

This is the first release of the Sabbatical Harvest Series made with seasonal products selected form our local agricultural bounty and transform them into one-of-a-kind unique California Spirits. Made in small batches and bottled fresh. Once the first batch was bottled the second started with newly harvested fresh Victoria Island fruit, and is now SOLD OUT!

Tasting Notes, Drinking Style: More than just sweet, this slightly tart liqueur is layered with complexity and has a wide range of uses. Some of our recommended styles:

Cocktails

  • Farmhouse Summer Chiller: Mixed with sparkling water (lemon flavored), either La Croix with no sugar added for an airier drink or San Pellegrino Limonata for a lemonade inspired sparkling refreshment.

    • Mix and pour over ice, garnish with fresh mint leaves and a fresh slice of lemon or orange for a cocktail style serving.

    • Mix all in a pitcher with some fresh blueberries and lemons to serve at your next summer party!

  • Farmhouse Lemonade: Mixed with lemonade, serve over ice. Garnish with fresh mint or thyme.

  • Farmhouse Spritz: Use in place of Aperol or similar for an Italian style spritz. Farmhouse mixed with sparkling wine (Prosecco) and a splash of sparkling water.

  • Farmhouse Margarita: Use in place of triple sec in a margarita. The tartness of this liqueur pairs perfectly in a margarita while adding a unique blueberry infusion and added complexity with the thyme giving a subtle background layer.

  • Over Ice: Pour over ice and sip after a nice meal for a farm-fresh digestif. A fresh seasonal alternative for limoncello.

  • Blueberry Mint Julep: Skip the sugar cubes and instead add some Farmhouse Tart Blueberry in with Sabbatical Straight Bourbon for unique summer cocktail. Muddle fresh mint leaves, add more bourbon than liqueur, mix and serve over crushed ice.

Food: Pour over ice cream, mix with syrup to use on pancakes, the options are endless!

Fun Fact: The blueberry artwork was painted by our head distiller while staying at the island farmhouse.
